Ray of Giant Possibilities: Mollie Ray’s Vision as the First Young Comics Laureate

In September 2025, Ray (Mollie Ray) was named the first ever Young Comics Laureate. Best known for their wordless graphic novel giant, Ray brings both artistic excellence and a deep commitment to youth empowerment to the role. Over the coming year, they will champion creative access, launch a national perseverance campaign for aspiring artists, and lead workshops culminating in a comics anthology at LICAF 2026.

History in the Making: Announcing the Inaugural Young Comics Laureate

Comics Youth is proud to announce that Mollie Ray has been chosen as the first-ever Young Comics Laureate 2025–26. A creator whose work, including the acclaimed Giant, explores grief, healing, and resilience, Mollie will lead a year of workshops, mentoring, and national advocacy. This paid laureateship — supported by LICAF and the Charlie Adlard Foundation — marks a historic moment for youth-led change in UK comics.

This year’s Liverpool Pride celebrations centre our community’s roots in resistance, visibility, and solidarity. We're proud to offer a dedicated Children, Young People & Families Zone – designed to be safe, inclusive, and joyful, where LGBTQ+ young people and families can truly thrive.

✨ Hosted in the stunning Museum of Liverpool on the city’s waterfront.
✨ Organised with the support of Sahir House, lifting the baton for Pride this year.
✨ Delivered in partnership with Comics Youth CIC, YPAS GYRO, National Museums Liverpool, and @familym_m (LGBTQ+ family advocates).
Together, we're building spaces where our community can connect, create, and celebrate what Pride truly means.
