Here we go again!

Sellotape, scissors, and packing boxes at the ready, we're on the move again.

Big changes are happening at Comics Youth CIC as we join Make CIC in their exciting new adventure. Our new home will be at Make Hamilton 2.0  at 69-71 Argyle St, Birkenhead, CH41 6LQ, just a short hop, skip, and a jump from our current spot at 2 Cleveland Street.

Why Are We Moving Again?

For transparency, when we moved to Make CIC in February 2023, we were aware it might be temporary since Make CIC was in the process of acquiring the Argyle Street location. Given the challenging funding climate and being priced out of Liverpool city centre, we made the prudent decision to downsize and establish our roots on the Wirral, and we're glad we did!

We thought long and hard about this move, and here’s why we chose to join Make CIC at their new space:

  • Shared Ethos and Values: Like us, Make CIC is dedicated to seeing marginalized creatives thrive. Their spaces are designed to inspire and support creativity, providing a whole host of opportunities for makers. We want the very best of opportunities for you to expand your crafts and build a resilient future doing what brings you the most joy. We think Make's community can do just that.

  • Proven Track Record: Make CIC’s builds are tried and tested. We wholeheartedly trust them as a landlord because they show great care in ensuring their tenants feel safe, secure, and valued. When we are honest with concerns, Make CIC has been quick to respond with equity and transparency.

  • Vision for the Future: Make CIC's new building on Argyle Street, funded by Wirral’s £25m Town Deal, will be a hub of creativity, culture, and community. This space includes a community café, a roof garden (coming in phase two), and numerous maker activities – perfect for our creative community.

WHAT’S NEW AT MAKE 2.0?

Our new space is a stone's throw from Hamilton Square train station, so your travel plans won't need much tweaking. If you're driving, there's a Pay and Display car park just across the road.

The new location features:

  • A community café, including honey made by the building’s own bees!

  • A welcoming office space on the third floor for 1-2-1 support, small group sessions, and quiet study time.

  • Larger office space for our popular groups like Saturday Comics Workshop, Here for the Nerds, and Changemakers.

  • A roof garden (coming in phase two of the build).

  • Wheelchair accessibility via ramp and lift.

  • All the funky and wonderful vibes you've come to expect from us – we promise to keep our chaotic sparkle!

We understand new spaces can feel overwhelming, so we’ll give you a tour when you arrive, pointing out the toilets, fire exits, and craft supplies.

If you’re interested in attending a soft launch, helping us pack, or decorating the new space please let us know by emailing rhiannon@comicsyouth.co.uk!!

What Will Our New Space Offer?

  • Dedicated Office Space: Our third-floor office is perfect for 1-2-1 support, small group sessions, and quiet study time.

  • Larger Group Space: Ideal for our popular groups like Saturday Comics Workshop, Here for the Nerds, and Changemakers.

How to get to us?

Firstly, MAKE 2.0 is easily accessible via train and bus routes- it is a 7-minute walk from Hamilton Square Station and all major Liverpool train stations go directly to this station. If the train is not for you, you can jump on the number 1, 410, 413 and 487 bus from Liverpool too! Not sure how to navigate bus and train routes from where you live? The internet has all your answers- check out the Merseyrail website for all train journey support and Aviva bus and/or Stagecoach bus websites for bus route support. Should you need further support, drop us an email us and we can help you out.

We know that our new venue is outside of Liverpool Centre which will add time and cost to your journey. So, if travelling to our venue is too costly, we’ve got you covered. We have up to £2,200 set aside for several of our young people to tap into to cover the cost of their travel to our space so you won’t miss out on accessing us. All you must do is provide us with receipts of your travel tickets, fill in our invoice form with your bank details and we will reimburse you! You can request this support by emailing rhiannon@comicsyouth.co.uk.
