Monthly Wrap-Up! This May at Comics Youth!

Comics Youth HQ has been jam-packed with fun!

From Marginal Associate updates to Comics Declassified sessions, read on for highlights of we’ve been up to in the month!

Comics Declassified: Online

Online this month we were joined by Chloë Green, a Festival Director at Thought Bubble: The Yorkshire Comic Art Festival since 2019!

Chloë shared valuable advice thanks to her extensive experience with planning to run one of the biggest comics-focused festivals in the UK! From starting small and building up to having thousands of applications for stalls each year, Chloë went into depth on what she looks out for in applications.

Missed the masterclass? No worries! Every online masterclass is recorded and uploaded to our Comics Declassified Youtube Channel for your viewing pleasure! Subscribe to be the first to know when Chloë Green’s masterclass goes live.

Comics Declassified: In-Person

Our experienced creative staff Rosa and Evyn delivered sessions on finding your voice and using social media as an artist!

Rosa shared her own social media journey in promoting her work, and taught us about the realities of the creative industry and how to market ourselves as creatives in the current digital age!

Artwork at the Everyman!

CY’s talented young people Soph, Kaitlyn and Rhys displayed their own artwork in Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre this month!

The three artists were each asked to create a piece of art as a response to the Everyman’s new show ‘The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher’, and just look at the incredible work they’ve made! We’re so proud!

Saturday Comics Workshop

We ended April and welcomed May with the Comics Olympics! Then we designed our own characters to draw onto tote bags, and created self-portraits as part of the HOPE not HATE campaign!

Associate Updates!

The Marginal Associates have all been hard at work behind the scenes the past few weeks, with lots of collaboration!

Cady’s been working on adding fun things to the website and writing blogs (like this one right now!) and doing collaborations with Jake, who is currently working on illustrating a roadmap for our Marginal publications!

Aslan has been planning fun things for this year’s pride, and growing our network substantially alongside building our outreach database.

Matt H. is supporting young people on our Zine Collective sessions and creating illustrative notes as documentation of the fun that’s been had!

Matt W. has been working on illustrating creative responses to masterclasses and made a comic from engaging with our Zine Collective, such as this one below!

That’s it for May!
