What is your favourite part of Comics Youth?
After all these years, my favourite part hasn’t stayed exactly the same, it’s deepened. It’s that moment when someone walks in a bit unsure of themselves and, before long, is laughing freely, making something bold, and very clearly has found their people.
It’s watching young people grow into themselves—finding confidence, discovering their voice, and realising they belong. There’s a real joy in seeing that spark take hold: the shared jokes, the creativity, the slightly unhinged ideas that somehow turn into brilliance.
It’s not always neat or predictable, but it’s always genuine. And getting to witness people finding their footing, their voice, and their place, it still feels like magic every time.
What was your favourite childhood book?
Sabriel by Garth Nix—no contest. I was completely drawn in by Mogget (icon, menace, questionable ally at best) and the deeply disreputable dog, which probably says a lot about my taste in characters.
But looking back, I think it was Sabriel herself that stayed with me. There’s something powerful about how she steps into the unknown, not because she feels ready, but because it’s hers to face. She’s steady, determined, and unapologetically herself.
The idea of the Wall, of crossing into something strange and dangerous, felt like more than just fantasy, it was about growing up, about stepping into worlds that don’t quite make sense yet and finding your way anyway. About holding your ground, trusting your instincts, and doing what needs to be done, even when it’s difficult.
And maybe that’s why it stuck: it offered this quiet reassurance that you can face the unknown, carry your own sense of self with you, and still find a way through, preferably with a sarcastic cat at your side.

What is your favourite part of Comics Youth?
Seeing young people become more confident in themselves and learning all about their skills and interests!
What is the greatest invention of all time?
I feel like there will always be a 'better' answer to this than the one I think of, but for now I will stay true to my northern roots and say the teabag!
Anna (she/they)
Art Director (Comics Youth CIC - Merseyside Branch)
Works on a little bit of everything!
What is your favourite part of Comics Youth?
Working with the young people and getting to see all their wonderful artwork, which goes from someone walking into their first Saturday comics workshop, all the way to seeing someone hold their first book in their hands - it's genuinely an honour and a highlight the get to share all their creativity with the world.
What is your favourite board game and why?
There's loads of games I like depending on the mood and preferences of the group you're playing with.
I've probably had the most fun playing Herd Mentality, (although technically not a board game), which is a party game where you have to answer the question with you think is the most common answer which usually leads to some hilarious answers without intending to be.
I also really enjoy big in depth tactical boardgames such as Oath, Gloomhaven and Dune Imperium. But I am always drawn in by a boardgame with a cute theme involving forest creature and I've really been enjoying Everdell recently.

What is your favourite Dr Who episode?
Midnight is my all-time favourite! But I'll always have a special place for the classic 10 and Rose episodes... still not over Doomsday.

What is your favourite part of Comics Youth?
My favourite part of comics youth is getting to work with such a varied group of young people. I love creating and facilitating workshops for all the different kinds of people who attend comics youth! I really love creative problem solving so even though making workshops fit such varied groups can be challenging, I really enjoy finding a solution that I hope will make everyone feel considered and included !
Who was your role model growing up?
My role model growing up was Frida Khalo, I found it so inspiring how she was faced with such adversity but always continued creating. She made those negative experiences her power! I am also such a fan on her work, I think my artwork would be very different now if it weren't for her. In fact, she's had such an influence on me that I named my beloved pet poodle after her ! Frida 2.0 is just as iconic if you ask me!

Outreach Marginal Associate (Comics Youth CIC - Merseyside Branch)
What is your favourite part of Comics Youth?
As a former member, it was great to befriend people my own age and use arts as a way of getting involved with social activism. I've done workshops and exhibitions, hosted Drag Queen Storytime, and battled the Spice Girls as part of a brilliant Dungeons and Dragons group.
What's your favourite musical and why?
Comics fans might enjoy Mayhem of the Music Meister, which is a musical episode of the Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon starring Neil Patrick Harris as the main villain. Every song is a banger ("Drives Us Bats") and the rest of the show has some fantastic numbers. I'd love to see a stage show one day. In the meantime, I've been writing the script for a superhero-themed pantomime!
