Queer 4 You event launch!

Blog entry written by Cady Davies, She/Her, Marketing co-lead and SSRCS member.

Queer 4 You is a variety day taking place on 26th August 2023 at Mann Island on Liverpool Albert Dock, between 12:00pm and 4:30pm.

There will be workshops, ran by creative young people, taking place throughout the day in the Mann Island Atrium. You can choose between a writing workshop, two art workshops and a yoga workshop!

Within the RIBA building, there will be a young person-led exhibition which focuses on themes of hope and connection, and a quiet sensory space available to all who wish to use it. A book swap within the RIBA building will also be available for anyone interested!

A resources table will be present at the event, for information on local charities and organisations focused on helping LGBTQIA+ people and provides help for those struggling with their mental health.

The event is being made by LGBTQIA+ and marginalised young people, for the LGBTQIA+ community, marginalised voices, and allies. Everyone, across all generations, that wants to spread kindness, connect, and learn from their community is more than welcome to come along!

The Queer 4 You event aims to promote values surrounding connection, hope and mental health. In such an uncertain time, with hatred and bigotry becoming so rampant, the young people wanted to create a space where LGBTQIA+ people and marginalised people could feel safe, seen and heard.

This event has been made possible through the Safe Spaces: Reclaiming Community Spaces Programme. The young people have spent the last 11 weeks learning vital skills through the programme, from budgeting to activism and accessibility. All to bring the community an event that will have a lasting positive impact on those involved!

I am one of the young people who has spent the last 11 weeks working with the wonderful group of young people to create our Queer 4 You event! It has been a joy to see everyone’s brilliant ideas come together to create an event that will spread joy amongst our community.

Would you like to come along and get involved? Amazing! To participate in a workshop or two, sign up to your workshop(s) of choice through the Eventbrite links below!
