November Newsletter

November-the calendrical bridesmaid forced to walk up the annual aisle ahead of the month everyone’s come to see! Poor, meek, cold November, with a false, fixed grin. And yet, what’s this? CY is ready to rock and roll November until our feet ache and we feel a bit dizzy. Cheesy metaphors aside, gaze below to find out more about our plans for the next month!

Love and solidarity as always, the CY team xoxo

Mind over Margins Publication Launch!!!

On world mental health day we launched a new comic anthology that visualizes 17 personal accounts of mental health.

Spanning subjects including depression, ableism, hospitalization, and more, this selection of comics offers a nuanced, personal and honest look into mental health- a topic which, at times, can be rushed to be summarised and condensed.

CY News
CY @ Engage Britain!

This month we visited Manchester for Engage Britain’s Reconnection Tour! We met with national change-makers and politicians with one of our young people, Bee, to speak about the impact that the cost of living crisis is having on marginalised youth-, particularly LGBT+ people. Bee spoke to the whole room and shared impactful insights, our Director Emily shared a poem about the need for fairer funding and our LGBT+ Officer Kay gathered a lot of notes and shared incredible thoughts around wellness in workplaces and support on both ends. You can see in some of these pictures how we got on!
CY @ YPIL Conference

This month we also visited Birmingham as part of our Director Emily’s continued work with The National Lottery Community Fund Young People in the Lead group! Emily spoke with various funders, change-makers and influencers across the nation and shared what she has been up to with her fellow Youth Voice Team, who help shape TNLCF’s work towards fairer, stronger, and more inclusive funding processes. Check out the pictures below to get an insight into the day of conversations, listening, talks, and learning.
LICAF round-up

Last month we ventured to Bowness-on-Windermere for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival (LICAF). Becca and Anna had a wonderful weekend tabling there and meeting all the lovely people who stopped by to talk to us or purchase some of our wares.
We were blown away by the response to our new book release Mind Over Margins with lots of people coming by to pick up a copy.

As part of this year's Little LICAF window display trail around the town of Bowness, fantastic artwork from young people that have attended our recent Saturday Comics Workshop sessions was proudly displayed in Roly's Fudge Pantry. These pics were taken during our pre-festival early morning tour of the art trail and a sneaky stop to pick up some fudge!

Can you spot your artwork in the pictures? Well done to all who created a comic for the trail. We are very proud to have all you hard work on display.
CY On The Road!
