We are moving!
Sellotape, scissors and packing boxes at the ready, we are moving!
Many of you will have been with us here at Comics Youth since the very beginning. When we operated from different venues, to when we got settled into the Liverpool City Centre offices of Lord Street then Tithebarn Street. Well, it is time for another chapter to begin and a new page to be turned, we are moving to MAKE CIC.
MAKE CIC is a brilliant hub of community, arts, and connection right at the heart of Hamilton Square, in The Wirral. We know what you may be thinking, how the heck do you get to The Wirral and where is the new venue? What can you expect when you arrive? And why on earth is the move even happening?! Well, we have all the answers you need within this blog entry, and we hope you can read along with us and join us on our rehousing journey!
How to get to us?
Firstly, MAKE CIC is easily accessible via train and bus routes- it is less than a 5-minute walk from Hamilton Square Station and all major Liverpool train stations go directly to this station. If the train is not for you, you can jump on the number 1, 410, 413 and 487 bus from Liverpool too! Not sure how to navigate bus and train routes from where you live? The internet has all your answers- check out the Merseyrail website for all train journey support and Aviva bus and/or Stagecoach bus websites for bus route support. Should you need further support, drop us an email on hi@comicsyouth.co.uk and we can help you out.
We know that our new venue is outside of the City Centre which will add time and cost to your journey. So, if travelling to our new venue is a tad too costly, we’ve got you covered. We have up to £2,200 set aside for several of our young people to tap into to cover the cost of their travel to our space so you won’t miss out on accessing us. All you must do is provide us with receipts of your travel tickets, fill in our invoice form with your bank details and we will reimburse you! You can request this support by emailing rhiannon@comicsyouth.co.uk.
What does our new venue offer?
You may be wondering why you would travel to our new space, what does it have to offer? Well, we are glad you asked. Our new space is home to a lovely community ran café; it even has honey for you to buy that is made by the buildings bee’s! We will have our own office space on the ground floor that you can pop in to for 1-2-1 support and small group sessions, as well as using it as a quiet study space should you need to. We also have access to a bigger office space that we will be booking out for our more widely accessed groups, looking at you Saturday Comics Workshop and the Creative Collective! We know new spaces can feel overwhelming, so we will give you a tour of the space when you arrive and let you know where all the toilets, fire exits, and craft supplies live. Our new space is also wheelchair accessible via ramp and will be just as funky and wonderful as our previous office on Tithebarn Street, we promise to never lose our chaotic sparkle!
Why are we moving?
Speaking of chaos, you may be wondering why this move is even happening? It seems like a lot of change for the end of the year, right? Well, this year has been jam-packed with changes here at Comics Youth and that includes the way we finance our organisation and what we wish to prioritise. Without sugar coating anything, rent prices are high and resources are tough to bag, so to ensure we can keep our services being as brilliant as ever, we’d much rather pay less on rent and more on what is important- our members!
Our young people are the beating heart of CY, and it would be silly to overpay on accommodation in Liverpool when we can invest in community-ran spaces, just a few train stations away.
So, with our newfound home we can reimagine our priorities and ensure our sessions are as engaging, empowering and as full of fun as possible. One of the ways we will do this is by working with our youth board, as well as consulting our young people, staff, and wider community.
Now you know the what, why, and how- let’s get stuck in to when this change is going to happen!
-January 16th-22nd, last week of sessions.
-January 23rd-29th, no sessions- we are moving in.
-February 1st-16th there will be NO SESSIONS.
- February 17th 2023 will be when our session return at our new office.
We will be emailing you all with updates on our move and reminding everybody on what to expect at what dates, but just keep in mind that the third week of January is the last week of sessions at our Tithebarn office!
So, there it is. We are moving office and we hope you can move with us on this journey. If you have any questions about anything at all-, please email rhiannon@comicsyouth.co.uk but keep in mind that we close for Christmas on the 17th of December until the 2nd of January.
