Riso Workshop

Risograph Workshop!

For Here & Queer we were deciding what look and feel the book should have and how we wanted to display the stories. Although it will be sent off to print we wanted to experiment with textures and colours and equipment we had available to us. So we had a Riso workshop with our young people!

A Risograph is a type of printer that uses layers and single colours to produce work. It was mainly used in offices as a high volume photocopier and printer, but over the past few years has been picked up by creatives to produce cool prints using vibrant colours.

The process is similar to screen printing, each different colour needs to be in a separate layer and printed in stages. This can be quite long winded but the outcome is worth it (especially if you have fluorescent pink ink!).

Below are some process shots of portraits used for H&Q in different stages of printing.
