Safe Spaces Trail- Bold Street

This is a transcript of the podcast that guides you around Bold Street during our Safe Spaces Trail. If you want to listen to the podcast, you can do so here.

You are now on Bold Street- A place where you can find all the independent eateries and spaces to find community and socialise in the busy city centre. Take a look to the end of the street and you will see St Luke’s Church- a moment caught in history, The bottom end leads into the area surrounding Clayton Square, which is part of the main retail district of central Liverpool. We had a lot of young people nominate Bold Street and the wonderful places here, let’s take a listen to what they had to say.

'LEAF - The first time I visited Leaf on Bold Street, I had never felt such a sense of warmth, the exact warmth you get from a cup of tea on a cold, rainy day. Visiting the cafe on Tuesday evenings and listening to unheard songs from independent musicians in the area, lit up by strings of fairy lights and a atmospheric busyness, is something I miss the most during this pandemic.'

'LEAF - There was something so calming about the music they played and the friendliness of the people working there. There were also cute cards on the tables about tea which I love and that made me feel at home. It's a very quirky place too so my creativity would always rise when I was there.'

Bold St - brings a lot of joy. I could spend hours sauntering up and down, dipping in and out of shops there. In more recent and darker times, I have found that Bold Street is still thriving - and it makes me happy to see so many independents showing resilience and doing so well.

Bold St - I love the energy of Bold Street, I feel it encapsulates the multicultural and welcoming atmosphere of Liverpool. I can spend hours trailing through the independent shops and trying out all the different restaurants.’

Grin - ‘The amount of things in this shop is amazing too me, such a small room and quite a lot of stock. The stuff they sell is also amazing, I never fail to spend more than 30 minutes in there at a time just browsing through an aisle i’ve already checked 3 times over, finding new things. The atmosphere make me feel safe in this small space, and it gives me so much joy when I find an absolute amazing shirt in the middle of a random rack somewhere.’

‘I have always loved this Rennies Art shop on Bold Street. I've spent many afternoons here mulling over supplies for my next project. The energy in the shop always feels calm and hushed. I also love the staff here as they really know their stuff and as such I feel like we can have a conversation about art. I always love to support them!’
