SAFE SPACES TRAIL LAUNCH.

We are so excited to have launched our Safe Spaces Trail around Liverpool City Centre as of the 20th September, 2021. The aim of the trail is to highlight the spaces where young people within Liverpool City Centre feel safe, included and protected. The trail consists of artwork, writing and podcast episodes made by young creatives through commissions by Comics Youth. The podcast guides you through each highlighted space in the City, creating a new immersive experience of Liverpool.

All artwork, concept, and writing developed as part of the trail has been created by marginalised young people aged 11 – 25 under mentorship and guidance by trained creative professionals here at Comics Youth.

Especially due to the aftermath of the Covid-19 Pandemic Lockdowns, welcoming marginalised youth back into the City Centre with clear signposting to safe and thoughtful spaces is paramount. Safety is not a privilege, it is a right. Every young person has the right to know of, and visit, spaces that value their welfare and welcoming young people at every stage of their life.

How Does The Trail Work?

You will need one of our maps to guide you around the city trail. You can download the map here, or you can visit these selected locations below to collect a printed map:

  • Liverpool One Information Centre

  • LoveLocks

  • Comics Youth

  • World Museum

  • Worlds Apart

  • Sugar and Dice

  • Rennies

Once you decide on your starting point- you can begin the trail! Thanks to our friends at Despite The Monkey, you can tune in to a podcast episode for each location you visit. The podcasts will be recordings of written pieces from young people and reasons for nominations- even a guided meditation too! You can find all of the podcast episodes here.
