COVID 19 UPDATE

Hey gang,

First things first. We want you to know that we love you more than words can say and that we can’t imagine how scared you must feel right now. We are too, but we’ll get through this together.

We are living in unprecedented times right now and are taking the current outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) extremely seriously. We need to be responsible.  With a heavy heart, we have made the difficult decision to close our youth provision with immediate effect until guidance from the government changes. As an organisation, we must prioritise the safety and wellbeing of each and every one of you who accesses CY on a daily basis, be that staff, volunteers or members of our wonderful, amazing and inspiring gang! We understand how devastating this must be to so many of you who see CY as one the only safe spaces you can access. We feel you. That’s how we feel too <3

However, we have a plan! Our aim at this point is to keep our community safe, loved and connected during this uncertain time. In the next coming days, we will be releasing information on how our CY family is going to stay connected. For now, each one of our separate projects will have their own discord channel to chat, plan and organise! From DnD to Activism, we gotcha covered ^_^

We’ll also be launching drawing challenges, a new zine submission for our safe spaces project, movie night watch parties (from the safety of our own homes!), Animal Crossing parties and a closed reading group for our junior and senior members. Did we mention blogs?? SO MANY BLOGS.  For those of you who are worried, would like to join one of our Discord Channels (including: 1) Activism; 2) Safe Spaces; 3) Marginal Development Programme; 4) Newspaper project, 5) DnD) please email rhiannon@comicsyouth.co.uk for the link or ring 07525369624.  These will be closed groups, only available to our members and moderated by staff. We will be in touch with you soon!

This is a big change for us, and there may be some teething issues.

At a time like this we think we’re all a little bit scared on some level and that’s ok. It is ok to say that and to talk about it <3 Comics Youth may be closed right now but the spirit and ethos of our SPOOKY gang will prevail <3 Let’s spread #CovidKindness. Be safe. Keep in contact with your loved ones. Help your elderly neighbours. Be kind to yourself and others. We don’t need to distance our kindness or emotions.
